Unfortunately Grouper is right. You must be able to speak spanish, fluently, in order to work that kind of job here. And San Juan is a very expensive place to live. Rent is high, food is high and utilities are high. Public transportaion is a joke, crime is bad, economy is in the pit and traffic is murder. I live in PR but I avoid San Juan as much as I can. If you are fluent, have savings sufficiant to get you through 6 months and have a high tolerance for government ineficiancy, buerocracy, sad stray animals, horrible drivers and over priced everything then give it a go.

a year and a few months ago i had a weird sensation and i panicked. what i remember was that i started thinking why us humans fix ourselves if we cant see ourselves and from that day on ive been living like this.For like 5 or 6 years i would suffer from horrible panic attacks maybe 3 times a day and anxiety. i would fear death i used to think i was always sick and dying. whenever i went out i would panic , id feel like im sufficating and get panic attacks however whenever i felt safe i would be so happy and back to normal. like 3 years ago i had a thought that was that i didnt recognize my family, as if i didnt know who they were. that sensation lasted a few months and quickly went away.2 years ago the same thing happened however this time the thought was that my heart was beating too rapidly and going out of control.i stayed with this panicky thaught for almost a year. all those years i felt haunted , i ddnt like leaving my house without knwing there was a hospital near by or a way out . mental illness is not common in the family however my aunt and cousin both suffer from sever stress and my grandma for alzheimers.howver a year and a bit ago this new thought happend but this time it keeps on worstening.at first i would just question life , like whats the point in doing things , why are we here , why cant we see ourselves and all we do i see were like machines trapped inside boxes like our soulds are one thing and our bodys another.then it progressed , id have more wierd thoughts that would lead to panic attacks. but these panic attacks were different , i wouldnt feel suffoctation or dizziness instead id feel as if i was loosing my mind , like i was being detached like my soul had to get out of my body .suddenly everyday i feel as if im watching my life through someone elses point of view , i dont enjoy the things i used to do before i feel as if im not real my lifes not real and sometimes when i see myself in the mirror i dont recognize myself even though i am aware that thats me . i dont like leaving my house though i really want to , i wanna socialize and be a normal teenage girl.my symptoms worsten when im bored , stresses or getting my period . when im distracted 100 % i feel normal , im not scared and i go out i forget my thoughts , sometimes this lasts for a whole month maybe 2 .but eventhought i feel normal im just 80 % normal because i still feel unreal or like a machine trapped in a box .i still feel empty as if im not living my life . im just 16 years old i wanna be able to live my life normally but now im questioning wether i will . sometimes my attacks get so bad that i feel like KILLING MYSELF , or just want to sleep and begin to cry. please help me , guide me and tell me what to do what this is , is it curable , am i going insane ?1 please help me

There is actually nothing wrong is looking for help. I actually prefer that to people who post questions that have been asked plenty of times. I'm not an expert, but I will give you my opinion. I think you're probably very passionated about your team. It's not a bad thing, but maybe you take it too seriously. Maybe you feel that it's not worth it to give so much when your team isn't winning. Of course some fans get upset after their team's loss, but it's a part of it and everyone has to deal with it. You seem emotionally affected by what's going on, but my guess is that there could be a side problem related too it. I don't know, maybe your mood isn't in it and you feel a little in the blues. But what's concerning is that you say you don't love something you used to love so much anymore, it could hide something more serious. I believe you should seek for professional help from a psychologist. It's perhaps a hard time you're going trough. You could also take a break from it for a while. I can't really tell you what's wrong, I don't say that to be mean, but I think you're the only one who can figure it out.

Dont do it, i just tried to commit suicide Monday night. I took a whole buch of pills and started to feel really sick and my dad could tell something was wrong and saw the pills so he took me to the ER. I ended up being in the hospital up to yesterday afternoon. You get things put all over your chest and IVs in your arm that hurt like hell and they take away EVERYTHING. Even your clothes, and your not allowed to have calls from anybody and a nurse has to sit in the room with you all 24 hours of the day to make sure you dont do anything then a whole bunch of people have to come talk to you about what you did and its just miserble and emberissing. Im 14 by the way. Trust me its not a good idea.

Can someone old and wise that has been married for a while give me some serious advice please?

Ok so Me and my husband (who is in the military) have been married for almost 4 years. We got married quick and young (at 18) we are 22 now. We've known each other since elementary school. We have one 2 year old daughter. Hes been deployed twice and I can honestly say we have been fighting the whole 4 years of our marriage. (we have horrible communication skills) I caught him talking to his ex behind my back a couple years ago.. nothing to bad,(it was right after I gave birth to our daughter) masturbating to porn while i was pregnant on the couch, and when we were dating he went to a full nude strip club 3 times to go see a high school friend dance while I was out of town on a senior trip to san juan. I forgave him for those things just recently. I have no problems going to strip clubs with him and watching porn with him while we have sex and just fun things like that. but just recently he came back from deployment and we had a HUGE blowout fight (he was beyond drunk) and we decided he would not drink anymore for a while (he has been to rehab before for alcohol) well he totally ignored that promise he made to me so we started to fight again and I told him to make a marriage counseling appointment. he did... then he had a night out with the boys THAT SAME DAY. he told me he wouldn't be going to a strip club without me. well I checked the bank and he took out 100$ at a local strip club. He then got black out drunk and never came home. I guess he ended up passing out at his friends barracks. So then we had ANOTHER blowout fight and I told him no more drinking. Well he went to florida to go find us another car and see his family he hasn't seen in 2 years ...while I stayed here so I wouldn't miss any school. Last night he went out to a wing place similar to hooters and ended up drinking too much and threw up. He is suppose to be back here tomorrow at 12 so we can go to our marriage counseling appointment ...but its and 11 hour drive and he decided to go to the beach. he told me "don't worry I'll be there" but I somehow don't trust or believe him.. I told him if he didn't show that would be the last straw and I would like to separate. ...anyone please give me some advice. I know I'm not perfect and I am not 100% innocent but I cant help but to feel being walked all over and just not taken seriously. ADVICE PLEASE!

I've been doing a bit of research on the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington, and Orcas Island has particularly caught my interest. And the fact that its an "everybody knows everybody" kind of place also catches my interest. I would say something politely to the mom before breaking contact or I would just stop the girl myself by telling her not to hit or scream even when it is directed at her mom. Me and my ex are both 17, however we will both be 18 at the end of this year. I loved her so much and thought that she felt the same. My friend and I want a beach vacation but she doesn't have a passport so we're limited to Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. A nice beach is a priority. Are there any large white sand beaches in either of those places? Something like in Aruba? I know there is a large beach near San Juan but I want to stay out of the high-rise section. I have no idea what this is, and I'm to scared to go to the doctors or tell anyone. How I can explain it, is that I can very easily change what mood i'm in. Say I could be lying in bed and just like that i can get depressed, but then while at school I'll be quite happy, almost hyperactive. But then my mood can change from the smallest of things. Make sure your mom is getting medical help for her mental problems. Make sure somebody is home to look after your mother and you go out more to refresh your mind. My son has had a month long fever and unexplained body aches. Has anyone ever experienced this with a toddler?

My son is 2 years old. His fever has ranged from 102-104 for a little over a month. We have taken him to 4 different emergency room doctors and his pediatrician three times. They all keep telling us that he seems to have a virus, but they all agree that a month is a little long to have a virus. We've had xrays done, blood drawn, urine taken... and they can't find anything. "It must be a virus" is what we always hear. So, what I'm wondering is if anyone else on here has had a child with similar symptoms. It all started at he beginning of May, with a fever... then a few days later we noticed the body aches. He seemed to favor different body parts at different times... sometimes when we tried to pick him up, it would seem like he was favoring his arms and shoulder. Today, over a month later, he's wobbly and uncomfortable when he walks. Making it seem like he has pain in his hips or thighs. For a few days last month, he also grabbed at his penis. Making me think he had a urinary tract infection. But all tests came back negative for that. Other than these symptoms, he is shaky and whiny... crying almost all the time. Sometimes, the symptoms will almost disappear entirely, and we have a happy, normal 2 year old. But the symptoms always come back. I meed some real advice here people. I don't want to hear that I need to take him to the doctor because I have obviously tried that. I just want my baby to feel better. Please help.

I go to metal concerts and im a girl! I think they are so much fun! It depends on what kind of metal it is because not all metal concerts are punching and beating each other up unless you are in the mosh pit. Theres basically just headbanging and lots of singing...and lots of drunks. But if this is your first time going to a metal concert then good luck! :) I think you should go and you will have so much fun!

My best advice is YOU DON'T EVEN TALK ABOUT THIS.. you can't stop thinking about it.. but YOU NEVER TALK ABOUT IT. Actually, you would stand a better chance of walking (swimming) away from a crash in the water than a crash on land, if that is any help... but when airliner crash.. it's usually with a total loss of life, so the medium it crashes into doesn't really matte... DEAD is DEAD.

How do i react when people call me a "freak"? :(?

I have ADD, mild OCD, restless leg syndrome, metabollic syndrome, depression, anxiety, and im an alcoholic. I cant walk out my front door without being called a freak or getting stared at by almost everyone. Why do they stare? Is it the way i act or walk? does any of my illnesses contribute to this? do i act odd or seem different because of these? i feel like people know im mentally ill, so i just avoid going outside alltogether.

I've never been to Jalostotitlan. But Guadalajara is nice and the biggest out of all cities and Quetaro is very similar. I like San Juan de Los Lagos better though. I feel more like I'm in Mexico when I'm there. La Basicila and La Plaza I would say is my favorite part of San Juan. It's one of the smaller cities in Jalisco but the people are so friendly and I always have a great experience when I go .

I worked for my uncle who needed assistance because of his illness (he's fine now) under some government care-taking employers. My dad signed me up for it and I thought I was going to be doing some work. Well my uncle always says I shouldn't work, so my dad the work for me. Even though I have offered to work numerous amounts of times, my uncle wants my dad to do it. So the paycheck ended up going to me even though I didn't do anything. I didn't think this was right so after a year, I told them I wanna quit. 4 years later, at 22, I'm having a hard time finding a job. I have been looking for a part time job since I was 20, as my first REAL job. But do to my inexperience it's pretty hard. I was thinking about putting my previous "employer" down. I was in a very good Italian restaurant today and was horrified to watch how the bartender wash the wine/water glasses. They had two sinks one filled with soapy water and one with clean water, and whenever the dirty glasses came in, the bartender just dunked them in the soapy water and shook them a bit, then plunge them in the clean water and shook and rinsed a few seconds and put them back up on the tray for the next customer who order the drinks. Is this the standard way of cleaning glasses for restaurants? I came from a country that used to have a lot of street vendors that practiced this kind of "cleaning method" and this was over 35 yrs ago when Taiwan was considered a "developing" country and it was also when people got easily infected with illnesses like hepatitis, stomach flu, etc...

Ok this girl seems like a b**** and a priss but you never know what's really going on inside someone's head. She could be hurting from something inside and is just taking it out on people. You should talk to her and find out why she is acting like that. If she starts getting offended them stop talking to her cause she doesn't seem like a true friend. Things to do for free?

Me and my fiance get into a fight about this very question almost every day. He claims that because we have no money to spend on extra things right now, then that means that we have to resort to the same things we do everyday. Watch t.v., play with our 7 month old, and go on the computer. Hes starting a new job in 3 weeks so for now I am just trying to come up with a few things that will keep us all entertained. I can tell that my 7 month old is getting very bored of doing the same things all the time as well. Keep in mind I read to him a lot, he cant crawl or walk. The only things my son can do is sit by himself and scoot around in a circle on his tummy. We take him for walks when we can but we live in florida so going outside isnt always an option. We play with him with his toys and helping him stand and crawl but all of this he (and me) is getting very restless and therefore whiny. I'm going to Puerto Rico in July what are good family activities to do while down there?

I am going to Puerto Rico in July for 2 weeks with my Dad (who's 53) and my twin girls (who are 3) for vacation. This is our first vacation that we have ever taken together. We are renting a car and staying in a hotel in San Juan. He has already made all the reservations and paid for the hotel and the plane ect; however, he has given me the task of figuring out family friendly activities to do while we are down there. All I can think of is, well...the beach! and El Morro. Any other suggestions!??! I do have umbrella strollers! And I'm not afraid to walk! This is my first vacation since I've had the girls and is way over due! (last one was in 2006). I don't mind going out of San Juan either. Before I had the kids I USED to be a bit of a traveler and go to places like Germany, Japan and South Korea just to name a few places. So I'm game for anything; however, with my dad being in his 50's and the girls being 3, I don't know how well they would fair. Why is the Christian God not a loving God?

This is the age-old question (although a good one) of the existence of evil. As a follower of Jesus...honestly I have no answer. I recognize the twistedness of alzheimers, of cerebral palsey and I have a friend with Multiple Sclerosis (he cannot walk or even move his hands). The brokenness all around us is very real. Through the suffering I've endured (both physical illness) and also profound emotional suffering in a family who do not function as a loving family the only thing I can say is that God has revealed Himself to me. I know His character and am becoming more and more confident of His love and His goodness. When others distort His character, say things about Him that are not true ...I know Him. This is such a difficult question and any pat answer would simply be stupid. Hope that this gets the conversation started.

Those of you that have older kids and younger kids how do you keep the older kids from treating?

the younger kids like they are babies and doing everything for them. My oldest is 11 and my twins are 3.. The problem I have is the twins are the whiniest by far of all my kids. After pondering the question for a while I have noticed a pattern.. They whine to their older siblings who eventually get tired of their whining and do whatever they want for them. They will also go to the older siblings for things they know they should not be doing etc.. My family always brings me down and now D.Y.F.S is coming? How do I deal with this?

This past year I have been going through depression and anxiety attacks. I missed school so much that because of my illness and the treatment that I have to take summer school to make up for it and to pass the grade. It's everyday and I have missed it a few times because of my weird sleep schedule. I have trouble sleeping so I stay up like all night sometimes and then crash during the day. The school said that if I miss one more day of summer school that they would call D.Y.F.S on my family. Well I missed it today because I was sleeping and now D.Y.F.S will probably come to my house tomorrow. I'm really scared and I don't know how to deal with this again. D.Y.F.S was involved with my family last year and I was so afraid so them coming back, it's one of my greatest fears. Should I just let them take me into an orphanage? Should I just run away? Kill myself? I don't see why not, no one in my family wants me. Today my brother told me that I should just go die and I'm so fat. I have a terrible self image and everyday when I look in the mirror I hate everything I see. So what he said didn't help me at all. sounds a bit like tonsillitis. get it checked out asap at the doctors cos if they catch it soon enough it'll go away no problem. they can also offer help with your purging, having gone through that myself i found the combination of the doctor giving me advice and my parents monitoring me i managed to stop quite quickly. for your throat, try to have warm drinks rather than cold, keep your throat moist by sucking on some lozenges and take some ibuprofen cos that'll help ease some of the swelling. hope this helps:)

I am an eighteen year old girl that wants to live in a hispanic country each summer. I want to go to school to become a spanish teacher, and in the summers it would be my dream to live in a spanish speaking country. My 4 year old is having bad temper problems and is really whiny?

Recently my toddler has been sporting a bad temper all the time and it seems when she does not get her way she either trys to annoy me constantly until i give in or she gets violent and does some pretty naughty stuff. like today for example she didn't get a popsicle so she went to the potty and took her toothpaste and rubbed it completely around the rim of the toilet and that's just one example of what she's been doing... Sometimes I hear my voice and I think it sounds groggy and then I see my brown skin and eyes and hair and I feel like walking poop since poop is brown too. How can i get over her?

Me and my ex are both 17, however we will both be 18 at the end of this year. I loved her so much and thought that she felt the same. I know i sound like a whiny little child, but i was always the weedy kid that everyone picked on in High School. To the extent that i felt there was something seriously wrong with me. Now that what happened between us has spread, the rest of the year has tormented me more so than average. Ok I havent ate havent slept in 3 days all together. when I did fall asleep it was less then an hour and this same dream keeps happening. Why is my 6 month old so WHINY?

My husband and I is so tired of hearing whining, I am about to start myself. Anyone got a clue of why a 6 month old would whine so much? It's all I ever want... 24/7. I never get tired of it. If i go more then a week without it I get irritable and whiny.. Like I can't shake off my craving no matter what I eat. Should I get checked for BPD or a similar illness?

I might be over reacting, and I would like to talk to someone else before I ask my doctor, but I check off for 5 or 6 of the 9 DSM IV Diagnostic Criteria. They are minor symptoms and only occasional, but enough that I would like to know if I should be worried. Even if it is not BPD, I know BPD symptoms could be linked to other types of illness. If you know enough about BPD, please offer advice on what I should do.

Family history of Schizoid Disorders and Autism. What are my chances of having a disorder as well?

Your odds are probably high, sorry. Many believe it can be prevented though. The going thoughts among the docs who are treating those with autism, is that it's from immune stress overload, and of course, some are more sensitive to this than others. Kind of like if you give a certain amount of poison to rats. Some will die, but not all. So, we say that the ones who lived were more healthier than the others, or had better immunity and genetics for various reasons. No, all of that sounded like one bad decision after another. You're 17. Why would you wait around for some 24 yr old ex military broke guy who's having a baby with your cousin? When i finally did confront her (in front of half the year no less) she got all defensive and said that i was a loser and that she only ever went out with me because i was a poor substitute for the guy i had a fight with/she slept with. I said (through tears) that i had been played the whole time and that i actually believed that she loved me. Now that what happened between us has spread, the rest of the year has tormented me more so than average. Even now i find it hard to accept that all those kisses and makeout sessions were a just lie, i also feel as though i'll never be loved by another girl again and that there possibly might be something mentally or otherwise wrong with me. Cost of living in San Juan WA vs Portland OR?

I'm pretty sure that the San Juans are more expensive than portland. Most people that have a house there are using it as a summer home. My aunt has a second home on a private island, Blakely, and it's my favorite place on EARTH. Even if it is a bit more expensive and you can afford it, I would go for it. There is no place better than the San Juans. And Friday Harbor on San Juan island is great...Orcas island is nice too. You're probably going to need a boat though :/ otherwise it's really hard to commute.

Unusual childhood fears?

When I was little I was extremely afraid of being murdered, especially by my mother, for no reason. I wouldn't go to sleep before she did and had a few escapes planned for if she tried to kill me. This was completely irrational since my mom is pretty much the nicest person ever. I was paranoid when we went for drives that she was planning on taking me to a field and was going to leave me there (we lived in the country). If a car was behind us I thought it was following us, and if there was only two other cars on the road, one behind and in front of us, I thought they were together planning to kill us. This was all in elemtary school. These fears stopped in about 4th or 5th grade. I'm not paranoid anymore. I told my mom and laughed about it. She said that isn't normal child fears so I looked it up and couldn't find anything. I know being so paranoid can be seen in people with mental illness but then I would still be that way right? Is there any explanation for this?

Do you think someday, that ultimately, your mental illness will do you in?

The only time I felt my mental illness was going to play a hand in my death was when I was seriously suicidal. Fortunately, with good treatment I got passed that point. I still have my mental illness, but no, I don't think that's what's gonna' do me in one day.

A long time ago I read a book, "Goddess", I am trying to find it and no matter where I search for the title all I get back is a bunch of new age books on goddess worship or fantasy books about various goddesses. Why do i feel so depressed ?

i feel extremely depressed when i wake up. I already sleep very little. It lasts about 5 hours or less, but till the time im already in depression. I don't know why i feel like that. I just can't understand. I was depressed some 2-1 years ago but it faded. Now though i feel bad. I don't feel suicidal compared to the last time. I did tried to harm myself,i did OD and many things. I know i'm not okay but i'll fight. I feel like i'm sick and will die,but truth is i'm okay.i haven't got any illness.

I hate to do this, but I am down to my last nerve and so is my husband. Our six month is teething but I know that isn't the problem because we use tylenol and baby oragel, we do everything else we can possibly do for him. I am going insane here. He just now started sleeping 11pm to 5 to 6 am and then he might take a nap or two during the day and these are extremely short naps. So as a result of NO SLEEP or not enough sleep he whines constantly to the point I get extreme migraines. I can't take anything for the migraines because I'm 9 weeks pregnant. I never planned on getting pregnant this soon, but it happened so oh well. I am starting him on a schedule tomorrow, this means nap time, eating times and bath time. So if anyone has any suggestions, besides calling his doc, because we have done more than once, then could please help me. I am in tears and stressed out from all the whiny. I just don't know what else to do and neither does my husband.

I don't think you should have a baby now. Both of you are too young. Besides that it's probably not a good idea to get pregnant out of guilt and confusion. When the right time comes along you will know.

Planning vacation to Puerto Rico...advice!! help!?

we're planning a low budget vacation to puerto rico...i found a hotel in fajardo that is really reasonable (found it on expedia). the thing is, i can only find flights from BWI into the san juan airport, and the hotel in fajardo is 1.5 hours from the san juan airport which would be extremely expensive if we took a taxi. i though fajardo would be nice because i read about a nearby rainforest and a beach nearby too. also we thought we could take the ferry to culebra or vieques and see those islands (like a day trip, not staying there overnight) but now im not so sure what to do because the san juan airport is so far away i do not want to pay out the nose for a taxi to/from airport to hotel. and i don't think renting a car would work because my mom isnt too good with directions and neither of us travel very often. what do you recommend? and is there somewhere else economical (like $600 max/per person) that we could stay in puerto rico that has various things to do (like beach, rainforest, other islands)

Would like an opinion on child custody.....?

I have physical custody of my son. I live a long way away from the other parent. My child wanted to try living with the other parent for awhile, so I let him go although he was still quite young. Because I did NOT want to keep my child from the other parent and wanted to encourage the relationship, I loved him enough to let him go. It hurt like crazy, but I adjusted to life. However, while there, the other parent never "stepped up to the plate" although they had good intentions of doing so. My child ended up with grandparents all week long for 5 months. The other parent would get him on the weekends (probably) 2 or 3 times per month and would visit him at the grandparents house a couple of times per week. There were times that my child didn't even see his other parent because of a bad work schedule even on the weekends. I am not sure that my son's other parent got him up for school - even once in a 5 month period. All contact has been through the grandparents. I have not any contact with the other parent nor has he updated me on my son's school progress, illnesses, happy moments or sad moments. Now my son is visiting me for the summer and I have not heard ANYTHING from the other parent until today when he stated what time he will be flying in to pick up our son and take him back "home" . I am able to provide full-time parenting to him and will be able to do so even when school starts again. If he goes back to live with his other parent it will be the grandparents doing the "parenting". Although my son likes this arrangement, it is not in his best interest to do so for lots of reasons. I have not discussed with my son that I am thinking about not allowing him to return. He is still quite young (10 years old) and does not know what is best for him. But if he totally contests to living here, there is a part of me that just says, "go" --- rather than deal with the heartache it will cause if I "force" him to stay. There's no abuse or neglect or anything else going on at either house and he is well cared for in both places. But I just wondered what other parents would do in the same situation. He will be "safe" in both places (here or there) but it's just the other parent isn't as available as I am and just doesn't seem overly interested in doing what it takes to be available for our child. Emotionally, I feel our son would be better off just staying here. What would you do in a similar situation --- especially if both places were safe places without neglect or other issues?

Good watersports/tour companies in Condado, San Juan (PR)?

My BF and I are planning a vacation in Condado but we'll be staying in a vacation rental, not a hotel/resort. We're on a budget. Know any fair & resonable watersports companies in the area? How much should we expect to spend on fun (maybe a visit to el yunque but definitely a day or two of jet skiing and snorkeling)?
