Phone service in San Juan, Puerto Rico?

I have the verizon iPhone and i'm currently in puerto rico. By how many bars I get it says "Extended" on it. It lets me send texts and stuff but every time I go to send a picture it won't let me. And my internet and stuff doesn't work. I don't think its charging me more. Help
