San Juan/Orcas Islands? What are your thoughts on the area?

I've been doing a bit of research on the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington, and Orcas Island has particularly caught my interest. Im a city girl and love an urban setting, but the serene coast and landscape of the island made me fall in love. And the fact that its an "everybody knows everybody" kind of place also catches my interest. Being a city girl, I've missed out on that kind of comfortable feeling, and would like to experience it...but, I've heard that being on an island and knowing everyone on it might be a bit claustrophobic and boring. Do younger people live there (Im in my 20's), or is it mainly a place for retiree's? Id be glad to hear any thoughts/advice/experiences about the san juan/orcas islands...Thanx!!!
