What will happen to my boyfriend?

my boyfriend was just charged with a 3rd Degree felony last night and I was wondering what will happen to him because they charged him with interference with communication, criminal damage to property, child abuse, battery (previous charge). The only thing is that there was no child abuse... Last night me and him got into a fight because I asked him to go to bed because he was really drunk and he wouldn't and I was going to call the cops but we were grabbing the phone and he was trying to take it from me and he threw me on the bed and while I was falling I hit my son but I don't know where and he started to cry... I was wondering why did they charge my boyfriend for hitting my son when he didn't? San Juan County, NM, USA
