Cost of living in San Juan WA vs Portland OR?

I'm pretty sure that the San Juans are more expensive than portland. Most people that have a house there are using it as a summer home. My aunt has a second home on a private island, Blakely, and it's my favorite place on EARTH. Even if it is a bit more expensive and you can afford it, I would go for it. There is no place better than the San Juans. And Friday Harbor on San Juan island is great...Orcas island is nice too. You're probably going to need a boat though :/ otherwise it's really hard to commute.
